Lunch meeting moved up. The other caterer fell through. Someone forgot to order until this morning. It happens — and when it does, the last thing you need is a form that says “we’ll get back to you in 2 business days.” Here’s the honest version: our standard drop-off lead time is about 48 hours, and orders under $500 can sometimes go out in about 24. For anything tighter than that — including same-day — call us at (619) 642-0298 and ask. We’ll tell you in a couple of minutes whether we can make your time work, and if we can’t, we’ll say so before your meeting, not after it.
We’re Shawarma House, a Mediterranean kitchen on Newport Ave in Ocean Beach that caters offices, clinics, and events across San Diego County. This page is the short version: what we can genuinely turn around on a tight timeline, what to order so you’re not making twelve decisions under pressure, and the fastest way to get a straight answer.
How fast can a catering order be ready?
For most orders, plan on about 48 hours from call to delivery or pickup — that’s our standard lead time for every spread, boxed lunch, and à-la-carte tray. Drop below $500 — the Small Spread ($399, feeds 15) or a Family Tray ($159.99, feeds 4–7) plus a few trays — and about 24 hours is sometimes possible. Below 24 hours, including same-day, the honest answer depends entirely on that day’s prep and kitchen load. There’s no calculator on this page that can tell you that, because it changes by the hour. That’s exactly why the phone number is the fastest tool here, not a form.
Can I get same-day catering in San Diego?
Sometimes — but only when three things line up: the order is under $500, you can pick it up yourself in Ocean Beach (no delivery), and you can give us at least 6 hours. Even then it depends on that day’s kitchen load, so call (619) 642-0298 and we’ll give you a straight yes or no in a couple of minutes. What we won’t do is put “same-day catering guaranteed” on this page, because it isn’t. A full Office Spread for 25 people on zero notice is a different question than a couple of extra trays for pickup, and the honest answer changes by the day. Searching for “catering today” or “emergency catering” in San Diego usually means one of two things: a genuinely small pickup order under $500 (call — it’s often possible with a few hours’ notice) or a bigger spread on short notice (call anyway — we’ll tell you straight whether today works, and if it doesn’t, we’ll get you the fastest honest alternative).
The honest turnaround picture
- About 48 hours: our standard lead time for any drop-off order — all five spreads, boxed lunches, and à-la-carte trays.
- About 24 hours: sometimes possible for orders under $500. That covers the Small Spread ($399, feeds 15), or a Family Tray ($159.99, feeds 4–7) plus a few à-la-carte trays. A phone call confirms it — we won’t present 24 hours as standard, because it isn’t.
- Same-day, small orders: possible only when the order is under $500, it’s pickup (no delivery), and you can give us at least 6 hours — and even then it’s subject to that day’s kitchen load, so it’s never a guarantee until we say yes on the phone. Call and we’ll give you a straight answer.
- Same-day, bigger orders: it depends entirely on that day’s prep and kitchen load, so the only honest answer is a phone call to check availability. You won’t find a countdown timer or an “order in the next 10 minutes” banner here — you already have the urgency. Our job is clarity.
What to order when time is short
Rushed orders go sideways when there are too many decisions. These three solve most situations:
Feeding 15? One decision: the Small Spread — $399
Beef and chicken shawarma, saffron rice, salad, hummus, falafel, pita, house sauces, and disposable ware — all included. Nothing to configure, nothing to forget. It’s the order we can move fastest because there’s nothing to go back and forth about.
Feeding 25: the Office Spread — $599
The same complete build at bigger scale. One phone call, one delivery, twenty-five people fed. On short notice this is more of a 24–48 hour order than a same-day one — call and we’ll tell you where today’s kitchen load lands.
Small group of 4–7: the Family Tray — $159.99
The fastest single-item answer for a small last-minute lunch — an office pod, a site crew, a family gathering that grew.
Odd headcount, or topping up a spread? À-la-carte trays — Fattoush, Greek Salad, Yellow Rice, Iraqi Salad, Tabouli, Tzatziki, Hummus, each priced per tray — stack onto a spread or a Family Tray. The full lineup is on our à-la-carte tray menu. If your situation calls for individually boxed lunches ($21–$28 per person, 15-box minimum), plan on the standard lead time of about 48 hours. And bigger groups aren’t out of reach on ~48 hours either — packages scale up to $1,999 for 100 people on the full catering menu and packages page.
Mixed dietary needs don’t have to slow the order down: all our beef and chicken is halal-sourced — more on that on our halal food in San Diego page — and we have vegetarian and vegan-friendly dishes to mix into any spread. Just tell us on the call.
Quick allergy heads-up even on a rush order: tahini contains sesame, and our hummus contains tahini — so it does too. Tzatziki contains dairy; pita contains wheat. We’re a shared kitchen and can’t guarantee zero cross-contact, so if anyone in your group has a severe allergy, tell us on the call and we’ll walk through it.
Pickup is the fastest path
Free pickup at 4884 Newport Ave, in the heart of Ocean Beach. No delivery window to schedule, no fee, and it removes one whole variable from an already-rushed day. The restaurant is open 11am–8pm daily for pickup — swing by on the way to your meeting and the food rides with you. Pickup also keeps a same-day request simplest: there’s no delivery slot to fit into someone else’s schedule, just a time you tell us you’re coming.
If you need it delivered
We deliver across San Diego County: free within 5 miles, $30 for 5–15 miles, $50 for 16–40 miles, and $60 beyond that. That covers everything from Point Loma and Mission Bay offices minutes from our Ocean Beach kitchen, to downtown San Diego and well beyond. One honest note: on a tight timeline, pickup is the option we can control end-to-end — delivery adds a scheduling variable. If delivery is the only way, say so on the call and we’ll build the timeline around it.
Searching for last-minute catering “near me” in San Diego?
If you’re searching for catering near you on a tight deadline, here’s how we cover the county: we’re based on Newport Ave in Ocean Beach, with free pickup right there, and delivery bands that reach Point Loma and Mission Bay in the closer free-to-$30 range and stretch out to downtown San Diego and beyond on the same $30/$50/$60 structure. Wherever you are in the county, the process is the same: call, tell us your headcount and timeline, and we’ll tell you honestly whether “near me” also means “in time.”
Call first — and have these four things ready
The phone is the conversion point on a rush order, not the form. Before you dial, gather:
- Headcount — even a rough one.
- Pickup or delivery — and the address if it’s delivery.
- The time food needs to be on the table — not the delivery time, the eating time.
- Any dietary needs in the group.
With those four answers, a couple of minutes on the phone gets you one of three outcomes: a yes, a yes-with-adjustments (“we can do 11:30 instead of 11”), or an honest no. We’d rather turn down an order than take one we can’t do right — that’s the whole reason this page exists. The catering line is staffed Monday through Friday, 7am to 4pm, so if you’re calling on a weekday during those hours, you’ll get an answer on the spot rather than a callback.
Hours, stated plainly so there’s no guessing: Catering line: (619) 642-0298, Mon–Fri 7am–4pm. Restaurant: open 11am–8pm daily for pickup orders.
Call (619) 642-0298 — Mon–Fri 7am–4pm to check availability. Not urgent-urgent? Use the quote form below — form replies come during catering-line hours (Mon–Fri 7–4), so if your event is inside 48 hours, call instead.

Frequently asked questions
What’s the fastest realistic turnaround?
Our standard lead time is about 48 hours, and for orders under $500 — our Small Spread (feeds 15), or a Family Tray plus a few à-la-carte trays — about 24 hours is sometimes possible. Same-day is possible only when the order is under $500, it’s pickup (no delivery), and you can give us at least 6 hours — and even then it’s subject to that day’s kitchen load, so call (619) 642-0298 to confirm. It’s never a guarantee, and larger or delivered same-day orders aren’t something we’ll promise on a web page.
Can I get same-day catering in San Diego?
Sometimes — but only when the order is under $500, it’s pickup (no delivery), and you can give us at least 6 hours’ notice. Even then it depends on that day’s kitchen load, so call (619) 642-0298 and we’ll give you a straight yes or no in a couple of minutes. We won’t promise a same-day delivery or a big same-day spread on a web page when it depends on what’s already cooking that day.
What’s the fastest way to get the food — pickup or delivery?
Pickup. It’s free, it’s at our Ocean Beach location (4884 Newport Ave), and it takes delivery scheduling out of the equation. If you need delivery, it’s free within 5 miles, $30 for 5–15 miles, $50 for 16–40 miles, and $60 beyond that.
What’s included so I don’t have to scramble for supplies?
Every spread comes complete: beef and chicken shawarma, saffron rice, salad, hummus, falafel, pita, house sauces, and disposable ware. It’s drop-off ready.
How many people do your catering packages feed?
The Family Tray feeds 4 to 7, and tray spreads scale from 15 to 100 guests. Current package names, headcounts, and prices are kept on our catering hub.
Can my company be billed instead of paying by card?
Net-30 billing is available for established business accounts — ask about it when you call. We don’t offer tax-exempt billing.
Can you cover dietary needs on a short-notice order?
Usually, yes — tell us on the call. All our beef and chicken is halal-sourced, and we have vegetarian and vegan-friendly dishes to mix in. One heads-up: tahini contains sesame and our hummus contains tahini, and we’re a shared kitchen that can’t guarantee zero cross-contact — so flag any severe allergy and we’ll walk through the menu with you.
