If you’re the team parent, coach, or club manager holding the food money, you know the job: one order that covers fourteen players, a handful of siblings, two coaches, the vegan kid, the family that keeps halal, and somebody’s gluten-sensitive little brother — all without blowing the team budget. That’s the order we build every week.
We’re Shawarma House, a family-owned Iraqi-Mediterranean restaurant on Newport Avenue in Ocean Beach — 4.7 stars across 650+ Google reviews. Our catering spreads were made for exactly this kind of mixed group: beef and chicken shawarma, saffron rice, salads, hummus, falafel, and warm pita that picky eaters and adventurous ones both finish. All our beef and chicken is halal-sourced, and the vegan options are real dishes, not a sad side salad.
One boundary before we get into it: this page is about feeding teams — practice nights, game days, tournament weekends. If you’re planning an end-of-season banquet or a team party, that’s a different job, and our party catering page is built for it.
How much does it cost to feed a sports team?
A full team of 15 — players plus a couple of coaches — runs $399 for the Small Spread, which works out to about $26.60 a head split across the roster. For a smaller post-practice group, the Family Tray feeds 4–7 for $159.99. If siblings, parents, or another squad join, use the current package sizes and prices on our catering hub to step up by headcount.
Every spread includes beef and chicken shawarma, saffron rice, salad, hummus, falafel, pita, house sauces, and disposable ware. There’s nothing extra to pack: no serving spoons from your kitchen, no paper-plate run on the way to the field. Across the spread range, per-person pricing works out to roughly $19.99–$26.60 — team-money math that holds up when you’re splitting the cost across families.
The Family Tray is a little different: it’s a catering-tray menu item that feeds 4–7 for $159.99, not a full spread, so check our catering trays page for what it includes. That page is also where you’ll find add-on trays — extra hummus, tabouli, yellow rice, and salads — for rosters full of big eaters. Add a tray or two instead of jumping to the next package size.
What should a team order after a game?
Most teams step up one package size for a post-game team dinner versus a regular practice night — hungry players after a full game eat more than they do after a Tuesday practice, and parents tend to stick around longer too. A team that orders the Family Tray on practice nights usually wants the Small Spread ($399, feeds 15) for a post-game dinner. A team that normally orders the Small Spread often bumps to the Office Spread ($599, feeds 25) once siblings and parents are staying to eat.
The menu itself doesn’t change between a practice-night order and a post-game team dinner — beef and chicken shawarma, saffron rice, salad, hummus, falafel, and pita cover hungry players and picky ones in the same order, and the disposable ware means the spread can go straight onto a folding table at the field, no trip back to anyone’s kitchen first. If the win — or the season — turns into a bigger deal, that’s a different order than a post-game meal. An end-of-season sendoff, a banquet, or a parent-organized team party belongs on our party catering page, which is built for occasions and private events rather than a quick field meal.
One order, every player covered
Rosters are mixed, and collecting fourteen individual food preferences is nobody’s idea of volunteering. Here’s how one order handles it.
Halal. All our beef and chicken has been halal-sourced since the day we opened — halal meat served, on every order. Families who keep halal don’t need a separate plan or a second restaurant. If that’s a big deal for your club, our halal food in San Diego page goes deeper.
Vegan. Vegan players get actual food: falafel, vegan shawarma, vegan cream chop, hummus, tabouli, and fattoush salad, with vegan house sauces — toum, tahini, and hot sauce.
Gluten-sensitive. The gluten-free-friendly build is simple: pile shawarma or falafel over saffron rice and skip the pita. We’re a shared kitchen, though, so we never call anything certified gluten-free.
A few things every team parent should know before collecting orders: tahini contains sesame, and our hummus contains tahini. Tzatziki and feta contain dairy. Pita and gyro bread contain wheat. And because we’re a shared kitchen, cross-contact is always possible — we can’t guarantee any item for severe allergies. If someone on the roster has a serious allergy, talk to us first and we’ll walk through the order together.
Getting the food to the field
Pickup is free at 4884 Newport Ave in Ocean Beach — grab the trays on your way to the field or the sand. The spreads travel with their own disposable ware, so they go from our counter to a folding table without a middle step.
Delivery runs across San Diego County: free within 5 miles, $30 for 5–15 miles, $50 for 16–40 miles, and $60 beyond that. Put the venue address and a cell number in your quote notes and we’ll plan the drop-off with you. More on how delivery day works is on our drop-off catering page.
If your league plays fields all over the county, tell us the field address in your quote notes — the distance bands (free within 5 miles, then $30/$50/$60) tell you the delivery fee before you commit to anything.
Lead time: about 48 hours’ notice is standard. Orders under $500 can sometimes run on 24 hours’ notice — call to check availability. We can’t promise same-day, so don’t leave the snack-schedule signup to the night before.
The weekend-game reality: our catering line, (619) 642-0298, is staffed Monday–Friday, 7am–4pm — so lock in weekend-tournament orders during the week. The restaurant itself is open 11am–8pm daily, which means weekend pickup during open hours works fine once the order is placed. Tournament Saturday goes a lot smoother when the food was settled on Wednesday.
Feeding a team all season
If your team eats together on a schedule — a season of Friday practices, a summer league, a travel club with a standing routine — you can put us on a standing order: weekly, biweekly, or monthly, whatever the calendar calls for. Standing orders come with a 90-day per-person price lock, so the number you budget with is the number you pay, for 90 days. One setup, and the team is fed without anyone re-doing the group chat every week.

Do you deliver to fields and parks?
We deliver across San Diego County: free within 5 miles, $30 for 5–15 miles, $50 for 16–40 miles, and $60 beyond that. Include the venue address and a contact cell number in your quote notes so we can plan the drop-off with you.
Can we pick up on the way to a weekend game?
Yes — the restaurant is open 11am–8pm daily, and pickup at 4884 Newport Ave in Ocean Beach is free. Place the order during the week (the catering line is staffed Mon–Fri 7am–4pm), then grab your trays on the way to the game.
What’s included so we don’t have to pack anything?
Every spread — Small, Office, and Full — includes beef and chicken shawarma, saffron rice, salad, hummus, falafel, pita, house sauces, and disposable ware, so there’s nothing extra to pack. The Family Tray is a catering-tray menu item; see our catering trays page for what it includes.
